SUMMARY:Borehole Commissioning – Lugbe & Kutunku Communities\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:In 2023\, AID Initiative successfully drilled\, equipped\, and commissioned two solar-powered boreholes in orphanages and community settings in Lugbe and Kutunku. These boreholes replaced unreliable\, contaminated water sources that previously caused frequent illnesses among children and residents. \nThe project included: \n\nDrilling and installation of deep boreholes with submersible pumps\nSolar power systems for sustainable\, cost-free operation\nOverhead storage tanks and communal tap points\nWater quality testing and basic treatment/filtration setup\nHygiene and maintenance training for local caretakers and community members\nOfficial handover ceremonies with community leaders\, beneficiaries\, and supporters\n\nKey Achievements \n\nProvided safe\, clean drinking water to over 600 children and families daily\nReduced reported cases of waterborne illnesses (diarrhea\, typhoid) in the months following commissioning\nFreed children (especially girls) from long walks to fetch water\, allowing more time for school and play\nCreated a model that has inspired follow-up requests from nearby communities\n\nVoices from the Community “For years we bought expensive sachet water or drank from unsafe wells. Now the children drink clean water every day and we thank God and AID for this blessing.” – Caregiver\, Lugbe Orphanage \n“The borehole has changed everything. No more sickness from bad water\, and the children are healthier and happier.” – Community Leader\, Kutunku \nLasting Impact These boreholes continue to serve hundreds of people daily with no electricity cost (thanks to solar). Regular monitoring shows sustained water quality and usage. The success of this project laid the groundwork for our ongoing “One Orphanage\, One Borehole” expansion plans. \nGratitude & Next Steps We are deeply grateful to every donor\, volunteer\, and partner who made these boreholes possible. Your support turned clean water from a dream into reality for these communities. \nHelp us bring this life-changing resource to more places in the future.
